What you may notice
A stye usually appears as a red, painful bump on the eyelid. It may be accompanied by localized swelling and watering. Other lesions, such as a chalazion, can look similar; an examination helps tell them apart.
When to book a visit
If the bump persists, comes back or the swelling increases, it is a good idea to have your eyelid examined. Tell me when it appeared and how it has changed.
If you notice blurry vision, significant pain or spreading swelling, seek prompt care. These changes need an assessment.
An examination before deciding
An eyelid bump does not mean you need surgery. I will first assess its characteristics and how it has developed. If your case requires a procedure, we will discuss it during your visit.
